My birthday cake!

My Mother used to drive to SF to Union Square to buy one of these cakes for my birthday when I was growing up. There is nothing better. Nothing. I’ve been looking for this recipe for much of my adult life, I’m going to have to give it a try. Oh, and unlike what Mary says, the cake is better in layers with the crunchy stuff in between. It is worth the effort to do it.

(And for those of you keeping score at home, Mary is my cooking school teacher, and yeah, I had a birthday already this year. I’m the oldest I’ve ever been!)

Once again you did not allow us to celebrate your birthday on the proper day.

No no no! It is in the bylaws of this here establishment that the unindicted co-conspirators get to bake the cakes.

No matter. I still have the cakes that you didn’t let me post on your actual birthday last year. Off in a huff to dig through my web albums….. And it ain’t my fault if they’re stale or a tad frozen.

    Happy Birthday Tengrain!!!!!!!!!!

Ten, this was delectable. I don’t eat this kind of stuff, but as one who enjoys cooking, I found the practical skills and functional interplay of these two skilled human beings to be as delicious as any comestible. Thanks for this gift to us, and Happy Birthday to you! (…and make one with the crunchies in between!) ;)

Birthday!? Did someone say birthday? I am terrible at remembering such things and I actually did have some recollection that you have on in January.

Happy happy happy happy birthday to you. You, my dear Tengrain, are someone who knows how to live. That is reason to have more birthdays, more living.

    Lovelovelove to you!

Happy B-Day, TG. I don’t know why you let this pirates vs. ninjas thing stop you from celebrating.

I attained the oldest age I’ll ever reach in 1994, since then I’ve counted backwards while becoming more immature every day.

Happy Birthday, Tengrain, whenever it was.

  9. Texas Betsy:

Dimitrios, I’ve been doing the same thing for the past five years.

You are ageless Tengrain, birthdays are irrelevant…except for the cake!

I like to say I’ve been 18 for the last 40 yrs.

    Many happy, Ten!

Happy belated birthday, evil twin. Odd that we don’t celebrate on the same day. Still, I love cake too. Ice cream? Meh. But cake… I’m looking for a cake recipe that my mother had and lost: swiss chocolate cake. It’s like a German chocolate cake except with milk chocolate cake that is drizzled with the coconut-pecan frosting while both the cake and frosting is warm. Oh god.
