The Afternoon Quote

…comes to us courtesy of Missouri’s own Hannibal Lechter Phyllis Schlafly’s Eagle Forum, and it’s a doozy:

“[An alleged order from President Obama] means you can’t bring in a Bible and read from it when you visit your son in the veterans hospital. It means a priest coming to visit a veteran on his deathbed couldn’t offer the Last Rites.”

The Bush administration instituted a policy in 2007 that “prohibits volunteer honor guards from reading recitations — including religious ones — in their funeral rituals, unless families specifically request them.” In essence, the policy stated that volunteer groups were not allowed to attend military funerals and inject their religion in to it unless their presence is requested by the family. Conversely, if a family does want to included such prayers in the service, they have every right to so. — NYTimes

I believe the subtext is that this was in response to the Westbobo Baptists showing up, disrupting funerals to tell everyone that the deceased veteran is going to hell, but you know Crazy Phyllis has never let a fact get in the way of her Agenda.
