Cashing Out: Jim DeMint
Wow – Jim DeMint, the only member of Congress who knows Michele Bachmann’s safe word and the location of her reset button, is leaving the hallowed chambers of “the world’s most exclusive debate club” to run Phyllis Schlafly’s retirement home for aged wingnuts, The Heritage Foundation.
Republican Gov. Nikki Haley will appoint his successor to the Senate. I’m sure Senator Huckleberry Closetcase will consult to find a suitable, well, suitor.
I’m sure that The Heritage Foundation will continue to operate at the same high-level standards as always.

There’s gotta be something else going on here. He held a lot of sway in that chamber; you don’t give up that kind of power just for a paycheck. That money was going to be there when he finished his term.

ZRM, I dunno. He’s always struck me as a “straight arrow”. But nothing would surprise me…
I think he sees the writing on the wall regarding GOP power in the Senate (if filibuster reform passes, they lose a lot of their ability to obstruct). He probably feels that, as a Heritage Foundation bigwig, he can be more of a “Tea Party” kingmaker (plus it’s more cash money, look at Dick Armey’s payday).

Yeah, I thought something was up with Frist when he scooted out quickly and off the national stage. True, he was a moron, but he just wanted the loot. I think DeMint just wants the loot too. He wants to rule his flock, not try to convert the heathens. Ain’t no money in heathens unless it’s demonizing heathens.
I think Big Bad Bald Bastard nailed it. Unless DeMint has real old money, there’s no reason to stay in the senate and lots of reason$$$$ to go to the Heritage Foundation. Whores, the whole lot of them.

I’m guessing he may pick up a side gig with Fox if he plays it right, plus his PAC to appoints his lords or Teabagistan… plus leaving the Senate after elections to let the nutball governor of his state appoint at will. It’s a good move on his part and he stays in the wingnut’s good graces. This. This is how you grift. Dude should write book. I’m sure he will and then hock it on the wingnut welfare circuit.
