Here, in New Zealand, the natives play a festive traditional game of “Light the Cigarette.” The idea of the game is to light a cigarette.
“The ‘Light the cigarette race’ dates back to at least the early 20th century. It was played on ships crossing the Atlantic and was said to be a way for people to get fit. In New Zealand it was played at the Tolaga Bay School Christmas party in 1953, when smoking was popular for both sexes. Clearly the aim was to get men and women huddling together; health issues about smoking were on no one’s mind then. “

This reminded me of a girl from high school who attained a degree of notoriety as the only person who could light a cigarette with a match in the bitch seat of a fast-moving Harley. Her vexing personality made her position on the bitch seat completely comme il faut, so most guys decided they’d rather give up smoking.
