Musta been some great pie…

…that you would break into the White House’s State Dinner for India to have a slice. I don’t think that even Dr. Zaius would be that bold:

New York Times

The Secret Service is investigating how a couple aspiring to be reality-show celebrities managed to appear at President Obama’s first state dinner without being on the guest list, provoking questions about security at the White House.

Oh, aspiring reality stars. Balloon Boy lives!

UPDATE 1: Our good friend and allie, D R I F T G L A S S sees a great parallel between this incident (and the outrage) vs. years of an univited intruder at Chimpy’s Whitehouse and the absolute stoney silence.

    “Someday, I’m gonna be famous,
Do I have talent? Well, no.
These days you don’t really need it,
    Thanks to reality shows.”
    Celebrity, Brad Paisley

This may have been a ‘harmless’ stunt, but with all the death threats and ugliness from the right-wing this year the lone wolves sure as hell didn’t need to be given any ideas. I hope these folks get a huge slapdown for this potentially dangerous act.

“An administration official said the gate-crashing incident was apparently a breakdown in Secret Service screening and not the work of the White House social office”.

    Social Office?
    This administration can’t add 2+2 without a special committee,a
sub-committee,a special summit and consulting ‘those across the aisle’ to get the input of every ass in DC, yet can’t help American’s stay in their homes!

And for the record – Not a good idea blaming the Secret Service for….anything.

    Village Mutt -

Every presidency has a social office and a protocol officer (usually a wing of the SOS’s office); the Office of the First Lady always has one, too. I remember that Nancy Reagan hired away Robin Orr from the Oakland Tribune to be her social secretary. Full Disclosure: Robin was a friend of my mother.

I’m giving The Carebear a pass on this one. But as Drifty points out — all those years of Jeff Gannon being given carte blanche access to the West Wing, and he was uncredentialed and using a fake name — is a bigger scandal. And yet, there is complete silence about that.

I agree with you on dissing the Secret Service: never a good idea.

    Regards,

    Tengrain
