Well, we’ve been screwed before…
It’s dead, Jim…but we’re f***ed now.
The public option is officially dead. And so yet another campaign promise of the Carebear’s falls into the “Not Done and Ain’t Gonna Happen” column. I cannot say that I’m surprised — I’m disappointed, of course, but not surprised.
As noted before, this is the 8th term of Ronald Reagan.
UPDATE 1: TPM says maybe it’s not dead. Yet.

Seems to be some difference of opinion on that.

Maybe Not
As you know, the AP and NYT reported tonight that the new deal dumped the Public Option. Our Brian Beutler, up there on the Hill was not so sure. And Sen. Reid said definitively this was not true. And now the Times seems to be backing off their report. And we’re getting hints that those reports may have been premature.
More soon”
Olbermann also says it not dead.
It’s as good as dead. The only public option this congress will pass–if at all–is going to stink to high heaven. Time for a third party. A real one. Or maybe I should say a real second party. The two wings of the current party both suck (with a handful of exceptions, but that isn’t enough).
The expansion of Medicare does not replace the Public Option imho, because only people over 45 can sign-up for it according to some reports.
Dusty I have heard 55.
Dusty -
And you have to buy into the 55 and up Medicare plan.

Tengrain
I heard 55-64 with restrictions. Essentially those high risk uninsured that can’t get ins now, or the price is ultra steep.
Might as well be dead. It is a piece of shit legislation.
Medicare:
Medicare is cutting amounts they will pay hospitals and doctors. Insurance companies are raising premium rates. Social Security has no increase for the first time in years.
My insurance co. is raising my premiums by 129% and they are increasing my co-pays so I am shopping for another one. I have to do this quickly because I only have until Dec. 31 to enroll. The insurance co. rep that I am talking top advises me to drop any advantage plan and transfer over to a Medi-gap policy. I am told that the advantage rates are going to go absolutely through the roof.
As far as this health care legislation goes, it might as well be written on the back of a big check that the Care Bear is going to give to insurance companies and big pharm. With this and his Afghanistan war-Yes, it is his war now-he has assured himself that he will be out of a job in 2012 and I am not so sure that the Dims will have a majority come 2010.
Relax, filthy hippies, once we are victorious against the enemy, you shall have your health care pony. Just don’t eat it all in one piece, that’s gotta last you through the cold winter months.
fuck the dems. vote green: http://www.gp.org/candidates/index.php
