Yep, we’re twins. Hated #3. Do they know it’s xmas? Well, they are starving but have to put up with religious assholes who make them pray before they eat, so yeah, I think they can’t help but know that it’s xmas.

  2. Elspeth Ravenwind:

I saw “Do They Know it’s Xmas” as the ‘xmas’ being a more secular thing. More of a ‘let’s share our abundance and help those people in what is supposed to be a festive time’…and I’m VERY much a Witch, but those voices from the 80s and I remember hearing it and going ‘teh silleh’ over the singers. :) I still love that song…reminds me of a time where life was embarrassingly easy for me (no bills, no 8-5 job, no debts, just babysitting to get the next Duran Duran album or an outfit at Contempo…memories).

  3. Elspeth Ravenwind:

And if you hate it, why post it?

  4. Tengrain:

    Elspeth -

I post a lot of things for other people to enjoy; it’s not all about me. I am a self-less misanthrope.

    heheheheh,

    Regards,

    Tengrain

  5. tommyspoon:

Sorry to part ways with you ‘Grain, but I love #3 more than the American counterpart!

  6. darkblack:

You posted it then, you still posted it.

    ;>)

  7. Lsamsa:

tommyspoon…I do agree with you. I did like the U.K. charity single much more than the U.S. one, ‘We are the World’.
I guess though, that I am a really biased Canuck & I do like the Canadian single the best…’Tears Are Not Enough’. No where nearly as polished as the other two, but my favourite nonetheless.

  8. Tengrain:

    Lsamsa & ‘Spoon -

Yes, compared to the US one, this is solid gold.

    Regards,

    Tengrain

A fun Christmas album that is not too well-known but is rather good is by a fake group called “The December People” and the CD is “Sounds Like Christmas.” It’s basically a spoof of famous rock bands’ styles to traditional Christmas carols. At first, it’s a little strange, but once you get the idea, it’s rather amusing.

  10. Sunshine:

The Canadian one was my favourite one as well.

  11. Capt. Bat Guano:

    Why, Why Tengrain, Why?

  12. Tex Roller Derby Queen:

That I can tell you in one word!

  13. Mountjoy, who else?:

“Do They Know It’s Christmas” is the seed Tengrain… the song, like most Christmas songs, is pap, but the sory of Midge Ure (Ultravox) cold calling so many ego-driven talents and not even knowing who would show up on the day is a great story (there’s a documentary that gets run on TV every few years around this time about it).

Like Elspeth, it’s a guilty pleasure for me to remember back to 1984 and how life was so much simpler.

  14. Tengrain:

I was talking about this today at lunch, and I was informed of much the same thing, and then I was reminded that the one I hated was actually, “We Are the World.” That song was ghastly.

All of those songs came out at about the same time, so my regrets to all the Scissorheads. I was mistaken.

    Regards,

    Tengrain
