Hewlett-Packard, International Business Machines and Yahoo will be among companies sharing in $47 million in U.S. economic stimulus money for technologies to cut power use at computer-data and telecommunications centers.
The funds, part of President Barack Obama’s $787 billion stimulus plan enacted last year, will go toward software and other technologies for 14 projects, Energy Secretary Steven Chu said Wednesday on a conference call with reporters.
We are paying IBM to figure out how to save money in their data centers? Also, bet me how much of this money will be spent here in the US.

“By reducing energy use and energy costs for the IT and telecommunications industries, this funding will help create jobs and ensure the sector remains competitive,” Chu said.
I guess that’s why it’s called a “stimulus plan”.
I bet almost 15% gets spent in the USA. Had occasion to call the help line today. Talked to a young man who said his name was Hawkeye. Najid I’d buy, Hawkeye not so much. Didn’t help anyway.
There’s likely a “buy American” clause that keeps the investment $$$ here. What you have to wonder about is, where are the new jobs going to be created? Hawkeye knows.
There is no Buy American clause — there was once, but in the vain attempt to try to get the GOP on board for the stimulus, it was stripped out under the guise of avoiding protectionism. And then the GOP didn’t vote for the stimulus anyway.
