Spy: the Magazine Covers
Kurt Anderson has put up all the Spy covers (well, all of the ones in which he was involved, ie, the Funny Years) on his blog.
Those of you who follow MPS know that it is in many ways a rip-off an homage to Spy. From the typography to the styling, our now and then Separated at Birth, the New Math… to the snark… yeah, homage, baby!

Spy (“No Sacred Cows”) was always one of my favorite mags- a grown-up National Lampoon, if you will.
Back in the day, when I was a magazine salesman – wholesale, not door-to-door- one of the few things that I liked about my job was all of the free reading and reference material that found its way into my bookshelves. Spy, of course, was always in that mix.
Yeah. Homage. You’ll be hearing from our lawyers.

Priceless! I read every issue, every word. I used to commute by rail and travel on many planes and was often found laughing out loud as I did, by the executroids that I was only pretending to be like. Oh those halcyon days. Thanks for this. And you are homage indeed, although what you have built is all its own and quite remarkable. And I laugh in the comfort of my home!
It was my favorite magazine. They came out with a book with some of their best stuff. One of my sisters got it for me a few xmases ago. She remembers how I got them a subscription when they were in their teens.
