  1. dguzman:

His skin looks even pastier and more paper-like in that Iraqi sun. I’m surprised he didn’t burst into flames.

  2. distributorcap:

did he buy that GI JOe on a shopping trip

  3. djcinsb:

Looks to me like he’s trying to yank his sign back.

  4. Elspeth Ravenwind:

I am sooooo relieved – the knife-edge creases on his dress shirt are intact!!! I would hate to think he had to not worry for his safety and security so that he could iron!!! (or have his maid do it)
    barf,
    Elspeth

  5. Cpl. Erin A. Kirk:

He didn’t buy anything on his “shopping trip”, least of all a Major in the United States Marine Corps. And hey moron, G.I. Joe was in the army. Get your services right. Oh wait, as if you would give a shit to get the service right. You don’t give a damn about your countries military men and women anyway. That’s where the comment comes from that anyone, including a presidential candidate, could buy a member of the Marine Corps. So thanks for using my photographs for your propaganda bullshit. Its people like you that make me ashamed to be a liberal.

  6. Tengrain:

    Kirk -

I don’t know how you read any of that into this post — I think you are projecting your issues onto me. There is a difference between objecting to the mission and objecting to the actors, but I don’t think you can separate the two; maybe you are too close to it all to see a distinction. And besides this had nothing to do with the military, and everything to do with John McCain’s posturing and pandering for president.

Nevertheless, I respect your opinion and have let your rant stand. And I have deleted the post and the attribution to your photograph.

  7. Elspeth R:

Wow, methinks Kirk doth protest too much. Like yours was the ONLY site posting it…to use military slang “Whiskey Tango Foxtrot!!!!”
I have a good friend in country over there and I don’t know his op on the matter at hand, but I know that I want all of our overworked, undercompensated, undercaredforbytheUSgovt soldiers to come home stat!

Hey, Kirk, if you are lurking…thanks for your service, but maybe pursue some counseling for that inner-rage, mmmkay? It, like unnecessary war started by a lying, drunk, drug-addled vainglorious AWOL TANG member, isn’t healthy.

    Peace,
    Elspeth

“A lying, drunk, drug-addled vainglorious AWOL TANG member.”

    That’s priceless.

  9. The Wyldth1ng:

Elspeth-Please don’t riducle the young Corporal, if you want to ridicule someone, you can ridicule me. I did not see the picture in question but it does not matter. What matters is the pride that all honorable service members have and deserve.

  10. Elspeth Ravenwind:

Wyld, I was serious, not in jest re: how the Corporal went overboard in her attack of Tengrain’s posting of the picture. Noone was making fun of the soldier. And McCain is NOT the president (and Goddess bless never will be), but he sure is acting as a head of state. I merely and seriously commented what I did because of the unnecessary vehemence of the Corporal’s attack. That picture has been on several blogs and as of last night the other bloggers were not attacked. Which prompts me to think that the complainer was not the actual photographer.
I was, however, ridiculing the sh*tstain that is the current occupant of 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue.
And, please, DON’T tell ME how to behave – 5 years (and who knows how long it will continue to drag on and drag down our country’s military, our treasury, our economy, our global standing, our ability to be proud to be Americans?!?!) of this unnecessary and downright ILLEGAL war/occupation/destruction of Iraq has taken it’s toll on me. I was the one to call my military buddy the night the bombs started falling and told him that the war was on. He had, blissfully, not flipped on the tele yet. I haven’t seen him in almost 5 years (May of 03 was when he deployed). He’s on his fourth tour (at least, we lost contact for a while which worried the ever living hell out of me, and I don’t believe in hell…so that says a lot). I know where he was going a couple of weeks back and I was NOT happy about that. I have worked w/the military before as a civilian secretary during a summer hire term and I have always had family members in service in one branch or another. I used to date a (now retired) Naval officer. I am appalled at the degradation that the chimperor has wrought upon our military. Our country is in a shambles due to the hemorrhagic flow of money for the war machine. Unless you work for an oil-related company or mega-corporation that is a goooooood friend of the current assministration, kiss ‘normal, American’ life buh-bye. Shanty-towns of folks from foreclosed homes are springing up, a ‘too-little/too-late’ “stimulus” check is being sent out – you know what 300 bucks will get you? Not much of anything if you are in trouble, or at risk – how many folks are out there where $300 will keep their house from being repossessed? It is to laugh…if only to keep from crying.
And keep in mind, just because someone has extra burdens on them (i.e. the alleged Corporal Kirk above), it isn’t always a ‘free pass’ to let them beat up unnecessarily on someone that wasn’t picking on them. That’s when you direct them to a punching bag designed for that purpose and have them channel their issues in another direction.
    Peace out,
    Elspeth
