i love technicolor movies!
Flawless timing.
Rasmussen today has Congress’ approval rating down to 9%.
A lethal 3% among Independents.
Speaker Botox and Limp Noodle Reid should be afraid — very afraid.
I say, Bugger Off to the lot of these Cunts. Bollocks, Dear Chap. Bollocks.
If you tell the truth, peoples’ brains will hurt.
You ready to shoulder that responsibility?
A sad tale, but one that had to be told.
Pretty much what has already been said. You are amazing- this is brilliant.
Hide the womenfolk, lock up the liquor, avert the children’s eyes. I am about to drag out my soapbox.
Folks, as dead on as this is, the blame goes deeper. Yep. We might want to haul our asses in front of a mirror and take a good long look.
These venal walking stool samples are only able to get away with it because the people demand no better. Souless vapid troglodytes who can only frame the debate in a series of breathless diatribes have managed to out shout those of us who would be governed by the best of us; not winners of the weekly soundbyte competition.
Truth has been marginalized, trivialized, spun, stretched, buried, hidden, stifled, shocked, tossed into the partisan mosh pit of congressional committes until – drunken, tortured, and reeling she staggers on our streets mute and dumb; her language taken from her and twisted by the minions of power.
Meanwhile, we remain dumbstuck in front of our computers and television sets impotently shouting at the highly paid hair souffles empowered by their masters and mistresses to preach their version of events. Paid to lull the sleeper back into their slumber.
Blogs are great, YouTube rocks, but folks these people depend on ignorance and money to further their agenda. The rely on the vast majority of the populace abiding by the constraints of culture that allows, “Preachers”, “Congresspeople”, “Doctors” to hide behind the shell of achievement, attained, bought or borrowed to silence those of us who both see and know that things are not now as they are meant to be.
Do I have the answer? Do I have a cure? No. Maybe. Hell, I don’t know. Perhaps the time has passed when discussing and writing amongst ourselves is enough to effect *real* change by our subsequent actions. Maybe what we need is a “Million Mutha March” on Washington D.C. to cry for the impeachment of that burbling, brain damaged, genetically deficient excuse for a homonid and the ouster of those should-have-been-cumstains-if-their-parents-had-been-sober-enough-to-masturbate that continue to pick our pockets and trample on our freedoms.
Perhaps we need to bury their offices in (recycled) paper telling them that we know what you did, we know what you’re doing and we know what you’re planning and if you don’t stop we will vote all your sorry asses out of your cushy jobs and palatial digs in Alexandria.
Maybe we need to challenge them at every turn and take our language back. No, we are not at war. Only Congress can declare war; and this debacle that has cost far too many lives should never have been cast in terms of war but of international crime.
No, we don’t have to do everything in our power to stay “safe”. I would rather be free than safe thank you. No, we don’t need to pull the shroud of secrecy around the prosecution of terrorists. What fool doesn’t know that we intercept communications, follow people, look at them with satellites. We’ve all read Tom Clancy bitch. You might keep the particulars secret, but organized crime knows how the cops get evidence and it doesn’t stop them from being arrested, tried and convicted.
If we pull our collective head out of our rears, we might stand a chance of effecting real change.
I’m not hopeful.
Traveling Man
Okay, I’ll put the box back and shut up for a few more months….
excellent. once again.
Traveling Man -
You get right back on that soapbox, mister, and you shout it to the world.
Regards,
Tengrain
Just perfect, Tengrain. I’m linking this. Spot on.
Tengrain — nothing for me to add here. Like PiNYC, I will be linking to this post and cutting and pasting Traveling Man’s comment as well. We need to get this word out.
Regards,
Spartacus
Tegrain, while you aren’t completely wrong, it is just more of the passing of the buck. Traveling Man was right in his post. I do disagree with him saying “These venal walking stool samples are only able to get away with it because the people demand no better,” though — we don’t just not demand better, we actively demand exactly what we have been given. McCain and Ron Paul are excellent examples of this: they say “no earmarks” and “earmarks are ruining our country” but as soon as their constituents, you and me, say “we need funding for project x” they immediately begin begging at the government teat.
Congress’s general approval rating may be at 9%, but 90%+ of the current senators and representatives will still be there two years from now and longer. This is because Congress is only a symptom – we, more specifically our own greed, are the disease. We vote not on long term goals, not for the betterment of our country and the potential for our children, but for short term issues: lower taxes, keeping the local military base open, fear. Even people like Lawrence Lessig say politicians shouldn’t vote for what they think is right but what the most vocal supporters say they should vote for (http://lessig.org/blog/2008/07/selfswiftboating.html ).
However, I too am with Traveling Man. I too am not hopeful. I don’t have any answers. What I do know is that, rather than attacking with hyperbole and straw men, we need to start talking about the facts. McCain, to my knowledge, doesn’t want to fight for 1000 years – he is willing to have a troop presence in what he expects (magically) to be a friendly nation. Obama doesn’t want to blindly hand millions of dollars over to Hagee – he wants to allow them a fair chance at federal funding all charities have access to (with very strong anti-discriminatory restrictions).
The media is unwilling to talk about the facts anymore, unless it is useful as an exaggerated gotcha. The campaigns aren’t willing to listen to the facts, or even let facts about them be posted (http://momocrats.typepad.com/momocrats/2008/06/a-dear-john-let.html ). Even we are segregating ourselves more and more so we don’t have to hear other people’s opinions (http://www.npr.org/templates/story/story.php?storyId=92292747 ). Something needs to be done to stem this flow of strong partisanship or we will be left with a government that really does do absolutely nothing because they are too busy arguing.
Nice, T, Very Nice.
Very thoughtful toon-infomercial-for-truth.
If it was only those 545 I think we’d stand a chance——the actual numbers include the military leadership and minions, the secret/not-secret police organizations, the corporations prospering on and through the 545, and the very rich behind-the-scenes shakers and movers the 545 kowtow to.
Those numbers aren’t encouraging odds.
Great post, Tengrain – and Travelingman, very good points.
Fine, fine work, Tengrain. I’d throw in most of the Bush administration, too, and the Fed Chair ain’t elected – but Congress has to approve the nominee. You’re damn right about culpability. And I keep thinking about Watergate with that FISA vote – that Nixon panel is brutally on point.
I’m with Traveling Man. Can’t blame the elected officials without blaming the electorate. We are a representational democracy and with greedy, short-sighted and mostly stupid people in office, I think we are well and truly represented.
To Travelingman,
Couldn’t have said it better myself. Drag out that soapbox more often.
I also agree, There dosen’t seem to be much hope in any real change happening soon no mater what Obama says.
Great post Tengrain…Thanks.
It does have to fall back on the will of the people. Unfortunately, that’s the bad news. I haven’t watched U.S. network news for years and get some of my streaming video on current events from BFM, Paris. Although it does my heart good to see thousands of people still regularly walking off their jobs in protest where it actually hurts power (instead of just marching around on a Sunday afternoon in their “free” time), they have some of the same problems. Their jobs are going to China and Thailand too even with their efforts — just more slowly from what I can see.
So is the endgame chaos? Who wants to be the first person to advocate pulling a Charles Manson on the billionaires? More likely, the U.S. will degenerate into the social equivalent of Columbia without anyone hoping or planning for that result. Maybe what we need is a First World “international people’s movement” to bring a worker’s revolution to China so they don’t undercut us on wages and working conditions. Now wouldn’t THAT be insanely ironic?
You are so mean to Nancy Pelosi! What about Harry Reid?
(
Dr. Z: I expected so much more from Pelosi than I ever did from Reid. I mean, fer chrissakes, she’s a woman – she’s smarter than just about anyone on earth, she has nerves of steel. I just don’t get how she could let us down.
Reid? Reid who? He’s just a turd in a blender.
Regards,
Tengrain
Great stuff! The truth hurts, even more than kicking Steny Hoyer in the junk
