“…and y’all won’t go through life being whiney.”

First lady Laura Bush delivers the commencement address at Pepperdine University, in Malibu, Calif., Saturday, April 28, 2007. This struck me as odd until I remembered that Pepperdine is where Ken Starr is the Dean of the law school. School Motto: “As Taco Bell is to Mexican Food, We are to Law.”

I think this has more to do with it: “First lady Laura Bush delivered the commencement address today at Pepperdine University. Mrs. Bush, who is a former teacher and librarian, spoke to about 640 students graduating from the university’s Seaver College, Pepperdine’s liberal arts school.” http://ktla.trb.com/news/ktla-bushpepperdine,0,405806.story?coll=ktla-news-2

Who is Seaver? This from their webpage: “Seaver is a Christian college. As such, it affirms in undergraduate and graduate programs that there are sources of truth deeper than those of secular culture: Moses, purveyor of divine laws; Amos, crying out for social justice and unfeigned piety; Paul, overwhelmed with both the reality of sin and the joy of forgiveness; and ultimately, Jesus of Nazareth, in whom God is uniquely revealed, and by whose death and resurrection all humankind can receive reconciliation with God. The study of religion and the opportunity for corporate worship are integral elements in the Seaver experience. A commitment to Christian beliefs regarding the origin, nature, and destiny of humanity permeates the curriculum. The college’s ties to the Churches of Christ call it to a serious commitment to Biblical Christianity. Thus, in its mission, Seaver College seeks to remain true to the most profound insights of the religious movement which constitutes its heritage.” http://seaver.pepperdine.edu/about/mission/mission.htm

You want odd? Look at how much money Richard Mellon (”Arkansas Project”) Scaife contributed to Pepperdine to get Starr his job.

Hint: this is just the tip of the iceberg…
    http://topics.nytimes.com/top/reference/timestopics/organizations/p/pepperdine_university/index.html?query=SCAIFE,%20RICHARD%20MELLON&field=per&match=exact

“Scaife, a regent of Pepperdine University, contributed $250,000 in 1991 toward public policy chair there, and then in 1996 approved gift of more than $1 million to help finance school of public policy.”
