Meanwhile, inside the beltway…

What a bunch of morans – Pakistan is floating away, at least 12% of the population is now displaced from the floods, a Cholera epidemic is immenint, and the Washington insiders say:

With the Pakistani army taking the most prominent role in the government’s relief efforts, concern has grown in Washington that the flood will detract from the country’s battle against Islamic militants.

Gee, when Al Qada is on the ground actually helping the wretched survive, and we are postulating about terrorism and not actively helping…

If you are so inclined, the Department of State has a list of NGO relief organizations that are working on the ground in Pakastan.

I always give Doctors Without Borders some money, too.

August 6, 2001 Never Forget

On this day, in 2001, Harriet Miers, serving as Assistant to the President and Staff Secretary, gave George W. Bush his Presidential Daily Briefing entitled Bin Laden determined to strike in US. He went off on a bike ride, and took no action. He was on vacation, after all.

This picture was taken that day, this might actually be the ill-fated memo.

September 11, followed, and the rest is our sad history. For me, this date marks the absolute descent into Hell, the exact moment when we had our souls ripped away and so much tragedy, so much grief, so much suffering around the world really began in earnest.

Take a moment today to consider what might have been different if the idiot son of an asshole, an illiterate, dry-drunk, sonofabitch had not been illegally installed by The Supreme Court to be our president.

It’s ugly out there…

hoovervilles

Much to their credit, the NYTimes has run an article on the social safety net, specifically foodstamps, and some shocking things are revealed:

  • 1 in 4 kids are being fed on some sort of assistance program — that’s 25% for the math challenged.
  • 1 in 8 adults are being fed by some sort of assistance program, and like tracking unemployment, that works out to be 12.5% of all Americans
  • And of course, the interactive map shows that the Red States are the highest percentage of beneficiaries of these programs (ironically while their GOP representatives continue to work to dismantle the programs…)
  • The Heritage Foundation thinks that giving starving people food is incentive for them to remain, unmarried and unproductive and on the dole. Good Xristians, them.
  • And most shocking of all are the comments on the article, which fall pretty consistently into the social Darwinism category of, “let them starve.” (At least as of this writing…)

The selfishness and pride of people who would deny help to those who need it, never cease to astonish me. Anyway, read the article, but make sure you eat your vegetables and look at the comments. I promise you that you will be shocked.

half-mast

No snark, just sorrow. Twelve people are confirmed dead, 30 wounded, and it appears that one of the shooters (also in the military) was a psychiatrist named Major Malik Nadal Hasan. Expect the usual suspects to go nuts in 5, 4, 3, 2, 1…

Update 1: Told ya.

Update 2: The Blog at Poo Corner never lets you down. Here’s the post, so you don’t have to go there:

Update 3: Fox News: (I’m trying to find video…)

Shep Smith: “[the shooter's] name tells us a lot, does it not, Senator?”
Hutchison: “It does, it does, Shepard.”
