Family Values Alive & Well in Texas

Posted by Texas Betsy Saturday, February 13th, 2010

Gotta love these family values states, eh?

News8Austin reports:

Though the State of Texas does not officially recognize same-sex marriages, a Travis County judge has approved a same-sex divorce.

Maybe ’cause it’s Austin?

Support the Troops ….. Unless

Posted by Texas Betsy Wednesday, September 30th, 2009

What exactly are the anti-gays afraid of?  Massachusetts and Iowa haven’t fallen off the earth because of marriage equality, right?  I would have gotten a news bulletin I think.

Support the troops!  Unless ….. oh in that case, don’t.

Is anti-gay rhetoric just another form of the anti-THEM-ism that the U.S. is so famous for?  Is it something more than that?  Because I don’t see the right wing crazies getting themselves all worked up about people committing any of the other abominations mentioned in Leviticus.

I’m on ur signposts destroyin ur billboards

by: shykid

Last Friday night, some cretin(s) in Memphis vandalized a billboard from the Memphis Gay and Lesbian Community Center (MGLCC) that read “I’m gay and I protected your freedom.” In fact, they completely trashed it beyond recognition:

A billboard depicting a U.S. Marine that read “I’m gay and I protected your freedom” was ripped to shreds Friday night. The ad, located at Poplar Avenue and High Street downtown, was one of five billboards paid for by the Memphis Gay & Lesbian Community Center (MGLCC) in conjunction with National Coming Out Day.

Nothing remains of the MGLCC’s original message.

I reckon some basic respect for members of our armed forces is a tad too much to ask for, huh?

I had to check several sources before I believed that this was real and not part of some soap opera on cartoon network.  I do hope that the penguins at least got married in a state where it’s legal.

Same-sex penguin couple split

By GottaLaff

http://www.bestweekever.tv/bwe/images/2008/06/gay%20penguins3.jpg

That does it. Now that a gay penguin couple has gotten their divorce, the righties will start frothing about how Teh Gay can “switch teams” as long as the right hetero comes along:

Linda the penguin has split up two male penguins who lived as a nesting couple for six years at the San Francisco Zoo, caretakers said.

Male penguins Harry and Pepper had been so content together they were allowed to incubate and hatch an egg laid by another Magellanic penguin last year, zookeeper Anthony Brown said.

Watch. Wait. Listen. You’ll hear the murmurs of “See? Conversion!” grow into roars soon enough. Gay-to-Straight Schools will be overcome by admission requests, and everyone will suddenly realize what a snap it is to become straight.

See how much we can all learn from our feathered friends? All it takes is a bird named Linda to achieve what nobody else could in the history of mankind.

Now someone please tell me this: How easy must it be, then, for a straight person to turn all gay and stuff? Based on the above logic, it must be a piece-o’-cake, right? Maybe, say, Sarah the Quitter could give it a shot and get right back to ya.

But I Was Just Kidding!

Posted by Texas Betsy Wednesday, July 1st, 2009

I thought I was kidding when I said that gay marriage was the cause of the Sanfords’ marital problems.  Honestly, how can the marriage of two people you’ve never met affect your own?  But Jenny Sanford took me seriously!  Major league OY!

South Carolina First Lady Jenny Sanford Blames Gay Marriage for Her Failed Marriage

from From the Left by Christopher di Spirito

jenny-karen

Jilted South Carolina First Lady Jenny Sanford blamed gay marriage for the reason her marriage to South Carolina Gov. Mark Sanford failed.

Said First Lady Jenny Sanford:

“Of course I’m not saying that Mark is gay. But he may as well be.  The moral decay in this country has claimed another victim and this time it was my family.  Our marriage was perfect until these laws started passing around the country. Clearly the slow dissolution of the sanctity of marriage in America seeped into Mark’s psyche until he no longer felt compelled to abide by our vows.”

A social conservative in the Phyllis Schlafly mold, the South Carolina First Lady is vehemently antigay gay marriage and even oppose the separate but equal, civil unions.

I hate to break it to you Jenny but gay marriage isn’t the reason your marriage failed. The reason your husband cheated is he’s a scalawag and he’s unhappy at home. You might want to look in the mirror before deflecting responsibility to the gay community.

And to think, I actually once felt sorry for homophobic southern belle. No more.

(UPDATE: The source for this post is a parody site… Sorry, everyone. Jenny Sanford did not say these things. She remains fairly silent on the shennanigans of her husband. Rgds, T.G.)

And in other news ….

Gay Texas mayor runs for border to be with illegal immigrant partner; many face similar choice

SAN ANGELO, Texas (AP) — The mayor of this West Texas sheep ranching town offered a stunning explanation when he suddenly resigned: He was in love with a man who was an illegal immigrant and had gone to Mexico.

They had to move, he said, because there was no legal way for them to remain together in the United States.

“It wasn’t a decision that any U.S. citizen should have to make,” former Mayor J.W. Lown said in an interview from Mexico. “I left a home. I left a ranch. I left a promising political career.”

His local prominence and his run for the border on the day he was supposed to be sworn in for a fourth term caused jaws to drop, but it also became a high-profile example of the thousands of Americans who face a similar choice – separate or move abroad – because they can’t secure green cards for their partners like heterosexual spouses can.

An estimated 36,000 Americans are in this situation, said U.S. Rep. Jerrold Nadler, D-NY, citing information from the advocacy group Immigration Equality.

Bills have been introduced in Congress to treat same-sex partners like heterosexual spouses for the purposes of immigration but are likely to face a strong fight, both from gay marriage opponents and anti-immigration groups. The 1996 Defense of Marriage Act prevents immigration officials from recognizing gay marriages, even from states where they are now legal.

Proponents see the issue as a basic rights question, and Steve Ralls, a spokesman for Immigration Equality, said he believes the best chance for the legislation is as part of a larger immigration bill.

But other immigration advocates want to keep the issues separate, fearful of bogging down an already tough fight. Kevin Appleby, migration policy director for U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops, said the push for same-sex partners in immigration is about getting recognition in federal law for gay marriage – which he opposes.

“It’s an unholy marriage of the immigration debate and the same-sex marriage debate,” he said. “It’s very combustible.”

Getting what you deserve, whether you deserve it or not

Known shill-for-hire and vicious homophobe, the life-long foe of Murphy Brown (and former single mother herself), Maggie Gallagher, continues to take no prisoners in her war for stupidity quest to deny civil rights to gays and lesbians.

After stalking her prey signing Miss California USA, Carrie Prejean, to her cause, Maggie leaves the failed beauty queen to dangle in the wind as a post-modern Anita Bryant – and clearly Prejean is not, um, a Rhodes Scholar:

Maggie is no fool (well, actually she is, but I think you know this is a rhetorical flourish), and knows she cannot frame the debate any longer as denying civil rights to a group of people, so instead her tactic is to say that Adam and Steve getting hitched is chilling free speech and denying religious liberties to others.

Here, striking footage of Sasquatch Maggie appears on The Living Museum of 80s Power Suspenders guest hosted by Joy Behar.

Even one of the repellent and untalented Baldwin brothers cannot do much more than embarrass himself.

But wait! There’s more fun to be had – David Schuster takes no prisoners with the strange Max Headroom-like talking head of NOM, Brian Brown:

Well, after so much snark, we need to conclude with the cutest couple ever, who hopefully will be able to tie the knot soon:

Miss California is being stalked!

Imagine you are some sweet, young, failed beauty queen being chased by a troll like Maggie Gallagher, known shill for hire and notorious sex-phobic President of NOM?

You may recall last week, Gallagher suggested getting Miss California to be the face of her pity party after she lost the Miss USA contest. And now Gallagher is stalking her!

NOM nominates nominally talented Sci-Fi writer to their BOD

President of the gay-phobic National Organization for Marriage (NOM), noted for being Chimpy’s shill for hire, and tireless foe of Murphy Brown, Maggie Gallagher, is pleased to announce that NOM suckered in another rube to their sad, dismal, and failing pity-party has a new member on the Board of Directors, Orson Scott Card.

But who is this Card, of whom Maggie Gallagher speaks?

The press release from the NOM website says:

Orson Scott Card, a distinguished novelist, a professor of writing and literature at Southern Virginia University, and a columnist, recently joined the board of directors of the National Organization of Marriage (NOM)… “We’re extremely honored that Orson Scott Card has joined with NOM in our shared mission to protect marriage and the faith communities that sustain it,” said Maggie Gallagher, president of NOM, “He is one of the great science fiction writers of our time and a real voice of courage and intellect on behalf of marriage.”

A quick trip to Amazon to find the latest tome, Ender’s Game, of the noted Southern Virginia U’s intellect and Sci-Fi writer Orson Scott Card reveals the first sentence of his book: I’ve watched through his eyes, I’ve listened through his ears, and I tell you he’s the one.

A further glance down the page, the ever-modest Card gives himself a 5-star review, which includes this graf:

For those who have commented that the reason the book is awful is because I don’t describe, or my language is so very direct and plain, I must point out that there are several stylistic traditions available to a writer.

– Orson Scott Card

I am glad to see that NOM continues to attract the best and the brightest. And from the world of fiction, he ought to fit in.

UPDATE: The badguys in Card’s one-handed reading book are called The Buggers. Nice.

A storm has arrived (and NOM is scared s***less)

Perez “You dumb b—tch” Hilton is typical of the new face of the gay-marriage movement in America. (Joining Frank “you are all bigots” Rich among others). And I would like to nominate Miss California as the new face of the marriage movement. Much better than mine! “Truth and love will prevail over lies and hate.”

But beauty never hurt.

– Maggie Gallagher, Founder and President of NOM

The stress of going 24×7 of ugly and stupid is finally hitting Maggie “I hate Murphy Brown” Gallagher, notorious paid (and undisclosed) shill of the Chimpy McStagger marriage initiatives and budding auteur of the “Gathering Storm” instant camp classic internet movie, which has spawned a thousand mockeries.

Gallagher has time and again established that she has questionable ethics, questionable morals, and questionable intellect, has now established that she has a thin skin, too.

Defining Marriage

is changing. And not in a way that the right wing religion industry is happy with. Oh well.

What Other Marriages Should Be Banned?

Posted by Texas Betsy Friday, November 21st, 2008

So, Californians voted to ban gay people from marrying each other. What’s next? Should we ban left handers from marrying? Mark Levine from Radio Inside Scoop has just such a proposal.

I have a new proposition for the California ballot: Ban Southpaw Marriage!

I know there are some who say that being left-handed is not a choice…
That people are “born” that way.
That’s ridiculous.
We all know we choose which hand to write with and feed ourselves.
And this disgusting abnormal perversion of this radical minority cannot be the will of God.
After all, in every human society from the beginning of time,
Right is “right”! It says so in every language.
Left is sinister, evil, gauche, maladroit.
Right is “droit”, right, correct, the Law!

And left-handed people, unlike gay people, are more likely to propagate.
Do you want your child taught by a left-handed teacher?
Taught that it’s OK to be left handed?
Taught that left-handed people are “normal” and “creative” and “healthy, functioning human beings”?
Do you want YOUR child to be left-handed and unable to use common tools and machinery?
